The last day of surf camp was pretty cool!
For one thing, there were waves, so once again we could surf and skim (unable to paddle board again).
For the first segment I skim boarded! Samuel helped me work 1 on 1 again. Instead of perfecting yesterday’s trick, we ended up doing something different. The reason for this is that we were a bit closer on the beach, and there was a greater slope—not great for the pop shuv.
I tried learning how to run at a wave, ride the water, turn off the wave (creating a splash), and ride back in.
Unfortunately, I fell 95% of the time haha!
Still, it was a lot of fun and I came to really appreciate Samuel as a counselor.
The last two segments I surfed, since this would be my last chance to do so.
It was just fun in general; I rode waves into shore and just had a lot of joy with it.
Benny had us vote in between segments. Though I voted Samuel in the moment, I asked Benny afterwards if I could vote for two people, and he said that was fine.
Neither of my counselors won—another superb counselor took the prize—but I think they were both valuable for different reasons.
Samuel got one of my votes as for a personal counselor he really helped me learn skim boarding and all of the bits and bobs that came with it.
My other vote went to Erin as she was a really good counselor just overall. While Samuel helped me one on one, Erin was really great at being a good counselor with everyone.
I paddles into my last wave and surfed to the shore as Benny announced the end of the last segment. Thus ended my surfing camp.
Surfing camp was definitely fun, and I will miss the people there a lot. Luckily, I hope to return next year.
Until then, hang ten, folks.
